140 Redefining gut Barrier Function for Beef and Dairy Cattle

چکیده

Abstract Of the many roles that gastrointestinal tract (GIT) must facilitate, coordinated regulation of molecule movement across is key. This allows for nutrient absorption while limiting permeation non-desired molecules and referred to as barrier function. Barrier function GIT includes intrinsic, extrinsic, immunological factors, but generally permeability assessments are conducted evaluate whole-animal response most studies focus on extrinsic components Common approaches include use inert external markers varying in size their measurement blood or urine. Methodology exists ex vivo, vitro, vivo assessment; however, only vitro methods currently allow regionally specific information. Moreover, have been essential further elucidate factors affect such osmolality, pH, bioactive histamine lipopolysaccharides. For ruminants, extensive microbial degradation challenges fermentable substrates when assessing there interest compartmentalize by region GIT. Recent research using dual total post-ruminal highlighted regional responses may be affected production system, environmental conditions, dietary characteristics. Future needed improve understanding permeability, regions involved, strategies support permeability.

Supplemental Organic Chromium for Beef and Dairy Cattle

Chromium was identified 40 years ago to be an essential mineral for laboratory animals. Chromium has been deemed an essential nutrient based on experimentally induced deficiencies in laboratory animals and clinically observed changes in the health of humans. The most commonly observed symptoms of chromium deficiency in humans include impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance and elevations...

Genetic selection for temperament traits in dairy and beef cattle

Animal temperament can be defined as a response to environmental or social stimuli. There are a number of temperament traits in cattle that contribute to their welfare, including their response to handling or milking, response to challenge such as human approach or intervention at calving, and response to conspecifics. In a number of these areas, the genetic basis of the trait has been studied....

Feeding Corn Milling Co-Products to Dairy and Beef Cattle

Introduction The production of ethanol from corn grain has become an effective strategy to produce high quality and clean liquid transportation fuels. In fact, the growth of the U.S ethanol industry has provided an economic stimulus for U.S.-based agriculture. The feed industry plays an integral role in the ethanol production industry. For example, the primary product of the dry milling product...

Regulation of Amino Acid Metabolism in Dairy and Beef Cattle

Dairy cattle • In cows fed well-balanced rations, mammary uptake of amino acids is influenced more by metabolic demand than by arterial supply. • Changes in mammary blood flow accommodate changes in metabolic demand for amino acids but are unlikely to be the primary regulator of mammary uptake and utilization of amino acids or other substrates. • Capacity of Na-dependent and Na-independent syst...
